I just read a post by
Don Amador (a friend of mine from
Victory Alabang) entitled "
Horses." It is a very interesting blog about complaining and God's bigger picture. Read it and you will be encouraged. It inspired me to write some more about it. Hope you won't mind, Don! =)
In
Jeremiah 12:5, the LORD replied to Jeremiah's complaint:
"If you have raced with men on foot and they have worn you out, how can you compete with horses?" Two somewhat similar verses also come to mind:
"If you falter in times of trouble, how small is your strength!" (Proverbs 24:10)"“But my righteous one will live by faith. And if he shrinks back, I will not be pleased with him.” But we are not of those who shrink back and are destroyed, but of those who believe and are saved." (Hebrews 10:38-39)The truth about these passages:
God wants us to overcome the challenges we face in life! God meant for us to "run with horses" for His glory! How? Let us look at a man in the Bible who literally ran with horses - Elijah.
"So Elijah said, “Go and tell Ahab, ‘Hitch up your chariot and go down before the rain stops you.’” Meanwhile, the sky grew black with clouds, the wind rose, a heavy rain came on and Ahab rode off to Jezreel. 46 The power of the LORD came upon Elijah and, tucking his cloak into his belt, he ran ahead of Ahab all the way to Jezreel." (1 Kings 18:44-45)So how can we run with horses? By God's grace and power (divine enabling), and this is through faith in Christ! Notice what the following Scripture verses say:
"I am the vine; you are the branches. If a man remains in me and I in him, he will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing." (John 15:5)"No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us." (Romans 8:37)"I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me." (Philippians 4:13 KJV)God indeed has a destiny for all of us. This destiny is a call to greatness for His glory, and He prepares us to get there. Sadly, many people complain and give up during the preparation stage, and they never get the chance to fly and soar on the actual path to greatness because they have given up so early. Others have chosen to forfeit their destinies in God simply because they could or would not go past the offenses and relational issues (which are petty compared to God's grand plan) they allowed to plague them. Talk about falling short. How many people live way below what they were designed for? How many have given up running with men, when God intended them all along to run with horses? How many of us complain and say "life is just too hard" and throw in the towel during the sparring sessions, when God actually wants us to be champions in Him? Adversities and setbacks in life introduce a man to himself and to God: To himself... so he will see he is frail and in need of a Savior. To God... so he will see that only God can save him, give him strength to press on, and the grace to run and finish the race marked out for him by God - the very race he was created for. As we live by faith in Christ and under the grace of God, He will enable us to do what He meant for us to do for His glory - to "run with horses!" What an awesome life and testimony that would be! Are you preparing to run with horses?
